New hours of operation

Mondays-8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Thursdays-8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Our guests are among the most vulnerable in our community. Many are unanchored without The Gathering Place and the care, concern, and help from our committed volunteers. Thanks to your support and generosity the Gathering Place will reopen two mornings a week and we all look forward to seeing our friends.

Program Description

The mission of The Gathering Place (TGP) is to provide a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space for the homeless, poor, and isolated to gather in downtown Brunswick where we offer our guests respect, encouragement, companionship, support, and hope. This mission will not change as we reopen during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Keeping our guests and volunteers safe is our highest priority. In order to accomplish this, we will thoughtfully implement a phased approach. In order to accomplish the physical distancing recommendations by the CDC, group seating will be disbanded at this time. The new space configuration is significantly different but we will work hard to ensure the warmth and comfort our guests and volunteers have come to expect. Occupancy will be limited and guests’ will be asked to stay inside our space for no longer than one hour per visit as well as wear a mask.

We are upgrading technology to allow greater access to computers to prepare online applications, address landlord issues, job search, access unemployment benefits, address social security or disability issues, help with MaineCare, stimulus funding, rental assistance, legal assistance and food stamps.

Guests will have the opportunity to be with others, access the internet, use bathrooms, TGP phone, phone charging stations, and mail pick up.  Emergency supplies will be available upon request. In addition, the conference room, and possible offices, will serve as locations for individual meetings (in person or virtually) with volunteers, personal caseworkers, medical consultation, and addiction groups.
